To choose a sushi restaurant you should not only base yourself on the price for it is not always fair to the cuisine. Then, you should know that a good Japanese restaurant is not always a good sushi restaurant. Other indications are the freshness of the meals featured at the sushi bar and if there are a lot of Japanese present. Being connoisseurs, in general, they are more meticulous in their choice of the cuisine.
Well, I have found you a restaurant that offers sushi equivalent to the best chefs in the city. Miso, located in Westmount , near downtown Montreal , is a place with an exotic décor that provides the perfect ambiance for romance as well as for business.
Inside the pastel colors are appeasing and the ambiance is very relaxed with good music. For those who were usual of the previous restaurant, you will be pleasantly surprised by the place with its new curbs and the many details that makes all the difference. On the terrace, bamboo sticks separate you from the very busy sidewalks and the tall buildings surrounding you while keeping the relax ambiance of the interior. |

To start, we had exquisite cocktails. Litchitini, a martini submerging the national Japanese fruit, the litchi, and IceBerry, a mountain of crushed ice topped with cherries and whipped cream that melts as you sip it. A real delight!
In the meantime, our appetizers are making their entrance. First, the Edemani, peas enveloped with salt, will open your appetite. Then the Saketoro, grilled under belly of the salmon, melts in your mouth. The Moonlight, a well-presented dish composed of fine slices of tuna lying in marvelous vinaigrette. And, we had oysters gratinés sitting on a bed of salt. The latter will sizzle your papillae.
For the connoisseurs, do not hesitate to ask for dishes that do not feature on the menu. The Master sushi, Van, will prepare you what you like (Maki rolled in crepe or in Miso sheet, grilled plates, etc.) And for those who are unfamiliar, the waiters, patient and attentive to your culinary experience, will gladly help you choose between the different Nigiri & Sashimi, the various Maki, Gunkan, etc.
Miso also offers other Japanese cuisine. On the menu, you will find Teriyaki grilled items (Yakimono) like salmon, sirloin and chicken. There are deep fried plates (Agemono): Tempura (giant shrimps) and Torikatsu (breaded chicken). And you can also have stir-fried plates like garlic shrimps, peanut chicken, the famous General Tao, curry beef, etc. For the early birds, you can try the Miso breakfast.
To accompany our meal, Albert, the manager, and Danny, our waiter, recommended the Nigori, unfiltered Sake, that goes down smoothly and was perfect for our plate selection.
To finish a successful night, we had a green tea creme brûlée and a banana flambée with Grand Marnier. The latter was one of the best flambées that I had. A real delight!
I strongly recommend that you take your next trip to Japan at the corner of St-Catherine and Atwater . |
